The Best Female Villains in film and TV

Cate Blanchett as Hela in Thor-Ragnarok
Mirror, mirror on the wall, who are the ultimate onscreen female villains of them all? Turning to the dark side often comes complete with a killer wardrobe, dramatic beauty look and a role that steals the show from the heroine. It's no wonder, then, that Hollywood's leading actresses have lined up to play the parts of villainesses.

There are the comic book bad girls, like X-Men's Mystique and Cate Blanchett playing Hela, the first Marvel female villain to grace the silver screen (sporting a dramatic version of the leather catsuit we've seen before on the likes of Catwoman). Witches and ghouls are not immune to high-glamour makeovers either - just think of Angelina Jolie's transformation into the winged Maleficent with that menacing, blood-red pout.

Then there's the most human of baddies - the bullies, seductresses and criminals, played to perfection by the likes of Rachel McAdams as the ultimate "Mean Girl", Sharon Stone's manipulative Catherine Tramell or Faye Dunaway's Bonnie Parker. Look no further than Vogue's guide to the best Hollywood female villains, below.
