The 39 most stylish films of all time

When we settle down to watch a film, of course we're primarily invested in the plot - but we really dig it when a movie also has an exceptional menswear offering. This is where brands are cemented, trends are revived (or even created) and leading men are immortalised for generations. Whether you're more into Jean-Paul Belmondo's timeless Parisian vibe in A Bout De Souffle, Richard Gere's effortless Armani wardrobe in American Gigolo or the cast of Romeo + Juliet's sleazy-cool cocktail shirts, here are the most stylish films ever made. Watch and learn.

Singin' in the Rain
One of the most classically masculine wardrobes ever seen on screen, perhaps the reason that Gene Kelly's outfits have remained so timeless is that despite being about the advent of "Talkies" in Twneties Hollywood, Singin' In The Rain was filmed in the Fifties – and the costumes reflect both. While there are plenty of Twenties nods here (wide-legged wool trousers, cropped knitwear, thick-lapelled jackets, excellent trilby hats), they are all imbued with Fifties Technicolor. This can be seen best in my two favourite outfits of the movie: Gene Kelly's pleasingly cartoon-coloured tailoring in the dream sequence and his all-white evening ensemble (with matching hat) at the start of the climactic "reveal" scene.
